Christ Covenant Presbyterian Church of Woodstock (PCA) is a fellowship of believers in the Woodstock area, united to seek the Lord and be His agents to grow His kingdom on earth. We are excited about the prospect of the God of all grace using us to reach and disciple His people, and to make an impact for Christ in Woodstock, Cherokee County, and the rest of the world, particularly those unreached with the good news of Jesus Christ.
For a brief history, Christ Covenant began meeting on Sunday evenings in June 2009, then on Sunday mornings in February 2010 as a “daughter” mission of Hope Presbyterian Church of Marietta. After growing sufficiently, in July 2013 we were formally organized as a church by the Northwest Georgia Presbytery of the Presbyterian Church in America (PCA). The PCA is the largest, conservative and evangelical Presbyterian denomination in America.
What we believe
One of our core foundational beliefs is that the Bible is the means by which God reveals to Mankind both Himself and His will for our lives. The Bible itself makes that clear in such a passage as 2 Timothy 3:16-17: All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; so that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work.
Therefore, Christ Covenant takes the Bible very seriously and seeks to base both what we believe about God and His word as well as how we worship and daily live in the service of God on the Bible’s teachings.
In the global “river” of Christianity, we identify ourselves with the “branch” known as Evangelical, Reformed Protestants. For an overview of what we believe, please visit our denomination website. For a detailed confessional expression of what Presbyterians have historically believed, please refer to the Westminister Confession of Faith.
Our worship
Our conviction is that church is more than merely a weekly event to attend; it is a spiritual family/community in which to belong and serve. However, we also believe in the vital importance of our weekly gathering together as a local manifestation of the Body of Christ in what we call Lord’s Day, Special Presence, Covenant Renewal Worship.
- The “Lord’s Day” is because the first day of the week has been “sanctified” by God in commemoration of Christ’s resurrection on the first day of the week as the day to gather together to worship God.
- The “Special Presence” is that of Christ, Who promises in Matthew 18:19 that wherever even as few and 2 or 3 gather together “in His Name,” He will be there with them, which He does by the ministry of His Holy Spirit.
- The “Covenant Renewal” is the purpose of gathering with Him in worship. We engage with Him in our praises, prayers, and preaching. The pinnacle is the celebration of His Special Presence in the covenant renewal sacramental meal of communion each Lord’s Day service. We are then blessed and sent out into the world to be the agents of His kingdom’s growth through our lives and witness for the coming 6 days.
In our worship, we use a “blend” of psalms and hymns.
